You’ve gotta love props that cost less than $5, right?  I discovered the Lill curtains not loo long ago at Ikea. $4.99 for a set of 2 98″x110″ sheers.  I used them in both of the photos in this post.

The curtains are made of very thin tulle, just like a bridal veil.

In the top photo,  you can see one of the curtains on the right.  I actually held it in my hand and draped it over part of my lens to shoot through it, using the technique described in this post.

In the next photo, I hung one of the curtains as if it were a canopy over the bed – you can see it hanging behind her.  As thin as it it, it actually hid background clutter and contributed to the soft romantic feeling I was trying to convey.  I doubled it over to make sure that nothing showed through.

And yes, these are outtakes from a boudoir session I did recently.  The family-friendly outtakes!   It was one of the most fun shoots I’ve ever done, as you might guess from the 2nd photo.

Anyway, I think the Ikea Lills would be great for all sorts of shoots:  little girls, bridal, newborn, even senior girls

The white blanket she is sitting on was a good find also, from the same trip to Ikea.  It’s the Ofelia.  It cost $19.99.  I’ve seen that blanket used in newborn shoots – it’s perfect.  It’s clingy, stretchable and spreads out nicely if you want to lay it flat on a bed, as I did above.

Unfortunately, neither of these products are available on Ikea’s website.  If you don’t have an Ikea near you, I found curtains similar to the Lills on Amazon.  I didn’t see a similar blanket anywhere on Amazon, in white anyway, but there is a beige one here.

I’m so excited about my shopping trip to Ikea!  And I’m ready to go back, so send me some recommendations. What other low cost props do YOU use?
